Together We Can

Description

This is my piece for the prompt "Together we can..."

"Together We Can Break Our Chains, Remove The Barriers and Sew Freedom"

I made two pieces actually. The other actually advanced to the state competition, but I really didn't like it, and I wanted to do something with the concept you see before you.

I'll give a bit of explanation for the piece. It's a representation of Gay rights. There are pieces of colored fabric like a flag that make into a rainbow. These are hot glued to the piece of wood that I painted white. These pieces of fabric are separated by barriers (pieces of wood painted black and scratched with a utility blade) which read different obstacles that prohibit freedom from becoming a reality. They are also screwed into the white wood from the other side. They are chained to the large piece of wood. This shows how difficult it is to remove the barriers. The chains are from a pair of Tripp pants that I don't wear that much anymore. They are held on with screws. The broken bits of chain are hot glued. There are little wire men that I made in the piece. They are wire held together with thinner wire with a dab of hot glue to hold them together. They're hot glued to the wood. They are sewing the flag back together and pushing away the barriers.

This piece took me about....20 or so hours probably, longest ever for me. It meant a lot to me, and I enjoyed working on it.

Close Ups (which are really close up, and actually really good quality)

Thanks for taking a look.

Same Prompt, Other Piece:

p.s. I'm not trying to group-whore. I honestly want people to see this because of its message. I feel that that is the most important thing I can give to any cause is my expression of the cause. I want people to see this because of its meaning, not just because it's mine.

lol. that is one of the cutest neatest sculptures i've seen in a while. well done. i know you are intending it for gay rights, but honestly i think it can apply to humanity in general. especially since rainbows represent hope. ;) <3
