I especially like the detail in the iris, very realistic.
Like you said, the shading could use some work. But the photo could have influenced how it looks here. It also lacks some of the "wetness" that eyes have, try using multiple highlights of varying sizes. And keep an eye (no pun intended <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w…" width="15" height="15" alt="
" title=" (Wink)"/>) on what is reflected in the eye, usually there are lots of different shaded/colored areas of reflection on an eye. This also helps a great deal with realism.The eyelashes look a little stiff and maybe on the thick side. Try drawing them a little thinner.
Overall, very nice artwork that shows a lot of talent and potential!
